Before the March we wrote DH's phone number on dc2's arm and introduced her to a police officer so she would know who to look for if she got separated and lost. There were a lot of kids there.Nicoleandmaggiehttp://nicoleandmaggie.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5544913458028415917.post-59019310076079581522017-01-25T10:20:40.518-05:002017-01-25T10:20:40.518-05:00I'm very glad you went, too, and were willing ...I'm very glad you went, too, and were willing to stick with me for the day! I agree; right now, I feel like there are so many fires to put out that I don't know where to start. The NJ governorship does sound achievable. And I'm hoping to work with some people to start small, more inclusive conversations between people with differing political perspectives. Baby steps. :)Justine Lhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14190295175501659469noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5544913458028415917.post-75500888155004853392017-01-25T10:02:02.208-05:002017-01-25T10:02:02.208-05:00So very happy to have met you and for the chance t...So very happy to have met you and for the chance to be your marching "buddy." As you astutely observed, I'm not exactly an extrovert, but I'm very glad that I went. It was a humbling and inspiring day. Back home now, I'm determined to stay involved. My email and FB have been bombarded with different calls for action. I hope that I, and all of Saturday's marchers, can channel that energy and focus on attaining specific outcomes. I think this will very much a case of figuring out which battles to fight. To start, I plan to get involved in the upcoming NJ gubernatorial race; turning over the governorship seems like a do-able goal. I did hear though that there’s a “Scientists March on Washington” in the works. Might have to attend that one too…Nancynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5544913458028415917.post-40546942860686462562017-01-25T09:10:29.838-05:002017-01-25T09:10:29.838-05:00Interesting read ... Your words stuck with me on Friday.

I also had similar thoughts about privilege as I commuted into Boston on Saturday. The crowd was largely white and I think that was the main reason the march was billed as a peaceful protest (which I am grateful for). I do suspect that if the crowd was more diverse things may have been different.

And I agree about the march being just the beginning. Unlike Occupy, I think there is a good chance that the movement will continue. There's a goal and a focus with this current administration. And though I also don't like creating further rifts, I see potential for continued momentum. Just want to note one thing which was about the mess. I was a bit worried about the mess and how long it would take to clean up (we actually live along the route you walked from RFK to the Capitol) but I can assure you that DC is actually well set up for this kind of event and everything was back to normal by 10 am Sunday (trash cans emptied, sidewalks clean, etc.). And believe me, the annual pro-life march does just as much damage to the neighborhood plus hundreds of illegally parked vans and buses make it dangerous just to walk the kids to school in the morning (it is the worst annual event for the neighborhood for slightly unclear reasons).Rachelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15243054875237959038noreply@blogger.com
