And these days, we tend to spend two weeks out of the summer and about a week at Christmastime visiting my parents (two hours by plane & one by car).

But we did take a few road trips when I was a kid, to the Rockies & to the west coast and camping. Dh & I have taken a few trips, mostly within a few hours of home, but we honeymooned in the Rockies & took a 25th wedding anniversary trip to Nova Scotia a few years ago. I tend to like to travel a bit more than dh, I think. We both agree we want to see more of Canada. But I don't mind just relaxing with a good book & a drink on the patio at my parents' house either. There has to be a balance, I think. ; )

There are lots of people hereabouts who have family cottages up north that they return to year after year after year. I like the idea of all that tradition, and I do like cottage s& being at the lake. That said -- I don't think I'd like the reality of cottage ownership. But I certainly wouldn't mind being invited to one now & then. ; ) (And I would LOVE to go to Cape Cod!!) loribethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09272814565916935113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5544913458028415917.post-76024376871851238642013-06-15T20:54:24.157-04:002013-06-15T20:54:24.157-04:00The idea of doing nothing scares me.

Because so often vacationing with children is just moving your problems (delightful little problems) to somewhere that makes them more awkward.

When I was a child we usually holidayed in Ireland, spending two weeks "down the country" at a farmhouse bed-and-breakfast and seeing the sights of whatever part of the country we were in. Three times we went abroad - Corfu when I was seven, France when I was 12 and again when I was 17. They were red-letter years. In between we also visited family in England, but that didn't count and was usually Easter, not summer.

As a young adult I travelled some, but not as much as many of my friends. Having a boyfriend in America for five years took up a lot of my vacation time, I suppose.Maudhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16597977344296682203noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5544913458028415917.post-67315661649928364252013-06-14T13:11:48.699-04:002013-06-14T13:11:48.699-04:00Oh how we traveled before kids. On the one hand, I like the idea of being adventurous and showing them the world (once they are a little older, though!)...on the other hand, I loved weeks at the beach as a kid. And I happen to LOVE the beach. Maybe not the same beach every summer for 50 years, but I wouldn't mind an annual beach vacation. there is something inherently relaxing in knowing what to expect. anahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18320182732889825712noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5544913458028415917.post-51507125775964744712013-06-14T12:59:03.969-04:002013-06-14T12:59:03.969-04:00Maybe it will do me good to have to sit still and ...Maybe it will do me good to have to sit still and do nothing for a few days, and just listen to the thoughts in my own head.

I am like that. It actually takes me about a week of anxiety to finally relax. I am not good at taking vacations...GMPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17872461021953583473noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5544913458028415917.post-70996672472282193882013-06-14T05:58:53.474-04:002013-06-14T05:58:53.474-04:00I loved doing the kind of traveling that you are t...I loved doing the kind of traveling that you are talking about. I did a lot of that when I was younger and before kids and hopefully one day again. I never thought I'd want a stay in one place kind of vacation, but I could go for that now . I'm ready. I hope you have a wonderful time and get to relax! Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01569566206375226838noreply@blogger.com
